WIND Hellas announces new company Hellenic Open Fiber (HOF) for faster fiber network development

WIND Hellas is committed to make a decisive contribution to accelerating the state’s digital agenda and bridging the digital divide with Western Europe following an investment plan of 500 million euros over a five-year horizon. The goal is for the country, but also for every citizen to be able to utilize technologies, new networks, 5G and fiber optics.

Achieving this goal is the recent announcement of the creation of Hellenic Open Fiber (HOF), a 100% subsidiary of the WIND group that will help accelerate the development of new generation networks, with particular emphasis on fiber optic networks to the home. (Fiber to the Home) or the business (Fiber to the Office).

Total investments by the Hellenic Open Fiber is going to exceed 150 million euros (by 2026), while the multiplier impact on the economy is estimated at around 500 million euros, strengthening the Greek economy with 600 new jobs (direct and indirect) and actively supporting the country’s local economies

Referring to the new company launch, the Chairman & CEO of WIND Hellas, Nassos Zarkalis , noted: “ The development of fiber-optic networks has been our strategic priority for the last five years. Hellenic Open Fiber will become an accelerator of investments in new generation networks and contribute substantially to shaping the new digital page of the country ”.

The new company will create the necessary conditions for high-speed Internet, in many areas of Greece, actively contributing to the digital transformation of local government. HOF aims to make fiber optic technology available to more than 600,000 homes over the next 5 years, significantly upgrading the country’s existing broadband infrastructure
